Scooter Sense Almost World Tour - No money, a $25 gas card, a stack of t-shirts, a tent for camping and a mission to spread the scooter gospel.

Hello to all you loyal Motorcycle Experience Viewers and Yamaha Bike
Blog readers!

If you haven’t already heard or are wondering what Motorcycle
Experience - Scooter Sense segment host Bryan Hudgin’s Twitter feed
has been referring to lately, we’re just about to shoot the second
season of “Scooter Sense” for the next season of TSN’s “A Motorcycle
Experience”. The concept this time around? The aptly titled, “Scooter
Sense Almost World Tour: Big City Lights and Camp Fire Nights”. Bryan
will be going on a good old fashioned road trip with his trusty Yamaha
BWs125 scooter for 3 days. He’ll be going from Montreal, to Ottawa, to
Kingston and finally landing in Toronto with a bunch of stops in
between.

The rules of engagement? No money, a $25 gas card, a stack of
t-shirts, a tent for camping and a mission to spread the scooter
gospel. His cell phone is rigged to the Yamaha corporate Twitter
account, so he’ll be updating frequently along the way. You can follow
along from each of Yamaha’s motorcycle or snowmobile blogs or search
for “YamahaMotorCa” to follow with your Twitter account.

Bryan says that he would love to have any fans and riders join him
along the way, which is we’re posting a tentative itinerary below.
Keep in mind, this is a pretty complicated beast to organize and
shooting TV can always take longer than expected, so things can change
really quickly. We will be changing things throughout this week and
during the trip but we wanted to get you up to speed to keep you in
the loop. You’ll need to check back with Bryans blog fairly frequently
to stay on top of our shooting locations!

Having said all of that, if you come out to support the tour, Bryan
will give you a limited edition “Scooter Sense Almost World Tour”
t-shirt for your troubles (while his limited supply lasts). Of course
he may use it to trade you for food though!!

Here is the current tour schedule as posted on Bryan’s blog.

Day One – Sunday October 4th

8:30am to 9:00am at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium

Feature 1 – The last breakfast! From now on in - no money, just a gas
card, a tent and t-shirts for the next 3 days. Can you eat cotton?

9:00 depart for Chateau Montebello via Hwy 15N and Route 50W

10:30am to 11:00am at Chateau Montebello gates.

11:00am depart for Ottawa via Cty Rd 17 & Regional Rd 174W

12:30am to 3:30pm at Ottawa at the Parliament buildings.

Feature 3 – I’ll do my best to recruit some government leaders to chat
about the benefits of scooters! Heck we pay their salary, it’s the
least they could do, right??

3:30 depart for loyal “A Motorcycle Experience” viewer Bruce & Jan
Haskin’s home via Hwy 7W and Hwy 15

5:00pm to 7:00pm in Portland.

Feature 4 - Meet the Haskins! Set up camp for the night!

Day Two – Monday October 5th

8:00am to 8:30am at Haskin Home in Portland.

Feature 5 – Bright eyed and bushy tailed. Bruce leads the convoy down
Cty Road 10 to Kingston, the old hometown!

8:30am depart for Kingston

10:00am to 12:00pm at Queens University Kingston

Feature 6- Math quiz! Who can figure out a scooter’s gas mileage the
quickest? Shouldn’t have any problems finding any scholar’s here

12:00pm depart for Shannonville via Hwy 2

1:30pm at Shannonville

Feature 7 – What are my lap times? Face off against some road racing veterans!

3:00pm depart for Sandbanks Provincial Park via Cty Rd 49

5:00pm to 7:30pm at Sandbanks Provincial Park

Feature 8 - Set up camp. Dinner of champions over the open fire.

Day Three - Tuesday October 6th

8:00am to 8:30am Sandbanks morning in Prince Edward County.

Feature 9 - How was the sleep? How was breakfast? Where are we off to?

8:30am depart for Port Hope via Loyalist Pkwy and Hwy 2

10:00am to 10:30am at Port Hope

Feature 10 – Fuel Stop. How much money have I spent on gas?

10:30am depart for Toronto via Regional Rd 9, Taunton Rd and Hwy 7

12:00pm to 3:30pm at Toronto

Feature 11 – Group Ride with Toronto Scooter Club. These guys are hardcore!

Feature 12 – Hit the showers!! Cap it all off!

Anyone wishing to join us along the way are more than welcome! The
more the merrier!

Please ensure you check back regularly to Bryan’s blog and the Twitter
feed as things will be changing constantly.

Zoli Berenyi Sr. ,an Icon of Canadian Motocross and the fastest 60 something Mx’er in the world and quite likely the toughest, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer

It is with sadness that I announce to those of you who are unaware that Zoli Berenyi Sr. has been diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and is expected to pass prior to 2010.

C’est avec une tristesse que je vous annonce que Zoli Berenyi Sr. a ete diagnoser avec le cancer du Pancreas et a des chances minims de voire l’an 2010.

For those of you unaware of who this gentleman it is,  he is an Icon of Canadian Motocross and was often to referred to as the fastest 60 something Mx’er in the world and quite likely the toughest.

Pour ceux d’entre vous qui ne reconnaiser pas le nom, il fut un Icon du Motocross Canadien et souvent etait reconnue comme le motocrosseur le plus rapide du monde dans sa soixantaine et le plus dure.

Those of you who do will always remember him in his sixties, spanking most intermediate level motocrossers,  his hands deformed in the shape of handlebars and his unwaivering love to ride (which he did until yesterday and will never do again), as he pulled over and said it was simply to painful to continue.  This comment from a man that less than 6 yrs. ago broke both femurs.

The Hansen & Berenyi families go way back as pioneers in Canadian Motocross and Zoli Sr. absence will be felt profoundly as he often visited and went riding with Steen and all comers on a regular basis.

Les familles Hansen et Berenyi fut des pionier  dans l’histoire du Motocross Canadien et la perte de Zoli Sr. seras resenti profondement car il nous visitaient souvent et partait rouler avec Steen et tous present a la cotidienne.

News  28/09/2009
Cairoli and De Carli face final 2009 challenge
2009 champions

The 63rd Motocross of Nations takes place next week at Franciacorta in Brescia (Italy) and the massive annual event will be the final chapter in an unforgettable 2009 campaign for MX1-GP World Champion Tony Cairoli and his Yamaha Red Bull De Carli team.

The Sicilian, who turned 24 years old last week, will steer his YZ450F for the last time this season in front of a passionate home following as the all-Yamaha Italian crew – he is joined by Yamaha Monster Energy duo David Philippaerts and Davide Guarneri – vie to win the prestigious Chamberlain trophy.

In the six years that Cairoli has been a Yamaha rider he has become not only the most successful Italian motocrosser in terms of Grand Prix wins but has also equalled Chicco Chiodi’s haul of three world championships. Cairoli ruled MX2 in 2005 and 2007, grabbed the European SX title in 2006 and ‘07 and claimed the MX1-GP crown at his first attempt in 2009. The numbers this term are impressive: From 15 GPs and 30 motos he took 4 wins and 9 moto victories, gaining 9 podiums in total; all statistics higher than any other rider. In a ruthless little streak of four Grand Prix during mid-season he owned 6 from 8 motos and began to establish a point cushion in the standings. He celebrated his final objective of the title with one round remaining and in spite of a knee problem in the sand of Lierop, Holland, last month.

His road to the title began in 2008 - while trying to defend the MX2-GP championship but ultimately suffering bad luck with a blameless incident in South Africa that required a knee reconstruction - he collected the MX1 Italian series, as both rider and team diligently worked behind-the-scenes for their introduction to the premier class in 2009. A dedicated winter programme of testing and riding meant that Cairoli could be considered a threat from the outset.

The first of his four wins came in an impressive performance in Turkey for round three. “The one in Turkey stands out,” he recalls. “The track was good for me, it was a big crowd and I had a nice race with David Philippaerts and Steve Ramon in the second moto. It was also my first victory in MX1, if you do not count a one-off wild-card appearance at Donington Park two years ago, so I remember it fondly.”

Some tough races with reigning champ Philippaerts on the YZ450FM and the likes of Clement Desalle and Ken De Dycker meant that the season was far from easy but Cairoli seized the red plate as series-leader in Turkey and did not let it go for the remaining twelve events.

“I have said it before; I did not expect this title in my first year,” adds the first rider ever to have scooped the number one status in both categories. “I knew I could probably win races and certainly be one of the top guys but to actually be the first rookie to do it is, for me and the team, a very good thing.”

“There were some riders this year that were injured and this was a shame but I had the red plate before most of these happened and there were always threats from people like Nagl, Philipppaerts, Desalle and De Dycker,” Cairoli continues. “It was not easy at all and there were times when I had to think about the standings and just go for points. Now some good races at Franciacorta in front of our fans would be the best way to finish the season.”

The De Carli team, created and helmed by former 500cc rider Claudio De Carli and Yamaha-equipped since the mid-1990s, have nurtured a number of promising young Italian stars and names such as Chiodi, Federici, Camerlengo, Bonini and Lupino. In 2009 they retained the national championship thanks to Estonian Tanel Leok, who also won a flooded home Grand Prix for the squad at Faenza for the opening round of the year. De Carli’s excellence in development of the YZ250F and most recently with the 450F has elevated the team to a well-deserved lofty status in the paddock.

“We had a good base with the 450 to work from. In recent years it has been proven not only in MX1 but also in the AMA motocross and supercross competitions,” reveals the Italian. “We started early and were encouraged by the fact that Tony could win at Donington Park in 2007. 2009 was an important year for the team and a big challenge. Winning the 2008 Italian championship was a good first move and after Tony’s knee was OK in the winter then we worked hard to be as ready as we could for the start of the season.”

“Tony also did a fantastic job, his sand riding was impressive and the way he could come back from some average starts – probably his only weakness this season – was also great to watch,” he explains. “I don’t think the championship was easy and there was some adversity at times but the final result is very satisfying for us. I would also like to thank Tanel; he won the Italian title and also gave the team its first 2009 MX1 win at Faenza.”

For both Cairoli and De Carli they now hope to end 2009 in the way it began, in triumph. Undoubtedly Cairoli’s profile will have never been higher and he, together with Philippaerts and Guarneri, will count on vocal and copious support for the upcoming weekend at Franciacorta, where the latest generation of the YZ450F will also be unveiled to the European public for the first time.
