invited to drop by the Vintage Pits at the last round of the CMRC FOX
Hi-Point Fall Series Event at Gopher Dunes on Sunday, October 18th.

This is your opportunity to visit the Vintage Motocross Display and
enjoy watching some Vintage Motocross Racing. Many rare and restored
vintage machines will be displayed throughout the day.

Anyone with a vintage machine for display or to race, grab yourself a
stand and move it over to the Vintage Pits when you arrive and enjoy
some bygone vintage hospitality. We will have vintage videos playing
non-stop in the Vintage Pits area. Bring your vintage gear and
memorabilia to add to that 'back in time' feel. This is a great way to
re-visit the heritage of motocross and relive those memories of
Motocross from days gone-by.

For this event everything is vintage even the racer fee's. We are
rolling back to the 1974 entry fee's of $5.00 per class. There will be
two Moto's for each class. Frank has graciously widened and extended
the Pee-Wee track into a purpose built Vintage-friendly MX track for
the day so we can show the folks that these machines are still
race-ready! There will be a '75 and older class as well as a 1975 to
'83 race (sorry no post '83 bikes) and even a rubber band start to
keep us all honest! There will be numerous awards for the displayed

Team Toyota Yamaha Red Bull Blackfoot Fox Racing :: BEATON WINS MX2 while FACCIOTTI & KLATT PODIUM in MONTREAL and LAUNCH THE 2010 YZ450F

Team Toyota Yamaha Red Bull Blackfoot Fox Racing

OCTOBER 5, 2009

BEATON WINS MX2 while FACCIOTTI & KLATT PODIUM in MONTREAL and LAUNCH THE 2010 YZ450F

MX2 and MX1 Podiums

Team Toyota Yamaha Red Bull Blackfoot Fox Racing ended their stellar 2009 season in style at the Montreal Supercross, with team riders Kyle Beaton, Colton Facciotti, and Dusty Klatt all taking turns spraying the champagne by the end of the night. Beaton took the new 2010 Yamaha YZ250F to the top of the box in the MX2 class, while Facciotti and Klatt took second and third place in the hotly contested MX1 main event.

Beaton’s win was certainly the highlight in what was otherwise a difficult year for the British Columbia native, as he struggled with injury throughout the outdoor national season. His night at Montreal looked to be more of the same as he suffered an ankle injury during the morning qualifying session and was unsure if he would be able to race the main. However, he would not be denied his last chance for redemption in 2009, and he decided he was going to gut it out and go for the win.

Montreal SX Track

“It was definitely an up and down day for me,” said Kyle of his Montreal ride. “When I had that fall in practice I thought it was over for sure, but I after a while things started to feel better and I decided I was just going to go for it. In the main my new 2010 YZ250F got me a great start. I came out of the gate and down the start straight so fast I almost didn’t make the turn! I still came out of that first corner in third and I made my way into the lead after a few laps and just cruised from there. I’m really happy that I could put that new bike on top for Yamaha and for the team. It’s such an awesome machine and Yamaha definitely made some great changes as it worked so well.”

Kyle Beaton, Colton Facciotti, Dusty Klatt

The team’s MX1 riders had a fantastic night as well, putting their Yamaha YZ450Fs on the podium ahead of a talented field of American supercross specialists. After a convincing win in his heat race, Facciotti started the main in third position and quickly dispatched second place rider Daniel Blair. Klatt came around the first corner in fifth and made his way into third place behind Colton within a couple of laps. Together, the two Blackfoot riders set their sights on the leader Jason Thomas, and the three of them opened up a sizable lead over the rest of the field. However, a win was not in the cards as the track was difficult to make up time on, and the two finished on the podium in second and third.

“It was a good race,” Facciotti explained. “Realistically I don’t think it could have gone much better than that other than winning. Everyone knows the start is really important at this race since it’s a short main event and it’s hard to pass out there. I didn’t get the start that I wanted and by the time I got into second and moved around Blair as he was holding me up, Thomas was too far out front to catch. I just want to thank the team for an awesome year as well as all our sponsors. Winning the MX1 National Championship and finishing second at the Montreal Supercross, it’s hard to do much better than that.”

Facciotti & Klatt / Klatt's Race Bike

Team Manager Joe Skidd was more than happy with the team’s performance: “We can call that a successful night. We were all happy to see Kyle find his stride after a difficult year. For him to go out and win on a brand new motorcycle that he had no seat time on is impressive, and to do it with an ankle injury is just amazing. Dusty and Colton did almost as well as they could have and finishing second and third as these results are nothing to sneeze at. This event has always been a roll of the dice with the race being short, the track being hard to pass on, and all the American riders coming up to compete. To come out of it with all three of our riders on the box is absolutely a victory for us. It was definitely a job well done by all our riders, mechanics, and support staff. One last thank you needs to be given to Yamaha Canada, Toyota, Red Bull, Blackfoot Motosports, Fox Racing, and all our other fantastic sponsors. We couldn’t do it without them and we look forward to representing them again next year.”

The team also participated in the Press Launch of the new YZ450F with Yamaha Canada and the Canadian Motorcycle Press on Friday night at the track. Both Colton and Dusty had a chance to ride the new bike and were very pleased with the performance, handling as well as all aspects of the innovative new Yamaha. Also a special thanks to Fox Canada for supplying our riders with the newly designed 2010 gear.

MXoN : Tanel Leok helps Estonia to eighth in Motocross of Nations in final ride for the Red Bull De Carli Yamaha team,

LEOK HELPS ESTONIA TO EIGHTH IN MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS

4 October 2009

On a fine day, many moons ago, we referred to Tanel Leok as "The Estonian Express" in one of his race reports. The moniker was entirely apt, and it stuck. Those that are familiar with Tanel's relentless bulldogging style on the track, the visual poetry of his charges through the pack, and his never-say-die attitude agree that the nickname is well chosen.

Once a year, he gets the opportunity to do real justice to his nickname when he dons national colours and represents his country at the Motocross of Nations. This event, unique to motocross, brings national teams together on the track and riders fight for national glory. Tanel has been a cornerstone of Estonia's efforts in the race since way back in 2001 when he was a fresh-faced 16 year old, and the Estonian federation may well start thinking about favouring him with an award for loyal service.

The 2009 event was held at Franciacorta in Italy, and it was tinged with a hint of sadness for Tanel. In the homeland of the Red Bull De Carli Yamaha team,
he would swing a leg across the blue monster for the last time, and he hoped to make a memorable exit from a contract that had brought a good number of highlights. He donned the snazzy team shirt, an entirely modern interpretation of the Estonian blue-black-white, and got stuck into his weekend's activities.

Over the last few years, Tanel has developed reputation as one of the fastest lap-for lap riders in the world, and during Saturday's training session, he did this reputation no dishonour, as he blitzed to the fastest lap time. Having established his credentials as far as twisting the throttle is concerned, he lined up for his qualifying race. Thirty six nations entered a team of three riders each, and the first job at hand was to ensure that Estonia would be amongst the 20 nations that would qualify for the main event.

Tanel was nominated by his team to ride in the Open class, and, true to his nature, he took to his job with a great deal of earnest. He had a middling start in the qualifying race, but posted a number of scorching lap times, including the fastest lap time of all 108 riders who rolled onto the track during the course of the day. His quasar speed hoisted him well up in the rankings, and although the relatively short qualifying race left little time for recovery, he worked his way to sixth by race end. He thus contributed the lion's share of Estonia's overall result, and the tiny Baltic nation qualified in tenth position, beating out some of the more fancied teams.

Sunday broke sunny and warm, and the tifosi descended on the track in their thousands. Paul Malin, the thousand-word-a-minute TV commentator estimated the crowd at 50 000, and by the way the seething mass of bodies packed the grass banks around the track, we would not argue with the former GP top man's estimate. Tanel's first call to arms was in the Open Class/ MX2 race, and didn't he just surprise friend and foe by getting a remarkably good start in the leading pack. This was all the encouragement he needed, and he again posted the second fastest lap time of the race on his way to fourth.

The day's grand finale, the Open Class/MX1 combination race, started off like a lead balloon for the home fans. A massive first lap crash, straight out of the beach fighting scenes in World War 2 movies, took Tanel's Yamaha teammate and Italy's top hope, Antonio Cairoli, out of the running. As if there were not enough mayhem already, a few corners later there was another epic pile-up, and this time Tanel also got caught up in the carnage. He remounted very near the back of the pack and set his GPS coordinates for the front. He had a huge amount of ground to make up, but dug deep, and hauled himself back from 30th position to 11th.

As has almost inevitably been the case over the years that he has participated in the event, Tanel carried the bulk of his team's result on his shoulders. When all the dust had figuratively settled and the scores were tallied, the Estonian triumvirate came away with 8th overall on the day, not a shabby result indeed for a team that hails from a nation with scarcely one and a half million citizens.

WIth his season's work behind him, Tanel bid a fond farewell to team manager Claudio De Carli, his teammate and the team staff. He will return to the fray next year decked out in the red colours of the LS Honda team, but for now, all he contemplates is a few weeks' worth or R&R in his native Estonia.

MXoN: Team Italy 6th in front of a staggering and noisy gathering of 90,000 people (weekend figure)

RACE REPORT 04/10/2009
Team Italy 6th and out of luck at 63rd MX of Nations
Philippaerts

The all-Yamaha trio of Tony Cairoli, David Philippaerts and Davide Guarneri entered the 63rd Motocross of Nations at Franciacorta in Italy hopeful of capturing the prestigious Chamberlain trophy for the third time in the history of the famous competition but their hopes were dashed after several freak incidents meant that they classified 6th in the final table.

In front of a staggering and noisy gathering of 90,000 people (weekend figure) at the road racing facility partially converted into a jumpy, technical and testing off-road track, Cairoli and Philippaerts grabbed the headlines with some sensational performances and speed. The weekend started on the right foot. After Philippaerts and Guarneri had time on Saturday to battle through the crowds to the public enclosure and unveil the 2010 YZ450F for the first time to a European audience the 2008 MX1-GP World Champion won his MX Open category heat on the YZ450FM while Cairoli aced the MX1 class with the YZ450F, giving the home Nation, competing against a record 35 other entered countries, pole position.

Tony ahead of Reed
Tony ahead of Reed

The premise of the Nations involves the three best riders from a particular country filling the classes MX1, MX2 and MX Open. The best 20 nations qualify for the three main event motos on Sunday: MX1+MX2, MX2+MX Open and MX1+MX Open, meaning 40 riders in the gate for each 30 minute and 2 lap sprint. Teams end the day with six results and are allowed to remove their worst classification. With the scoring reversed (so 1st picks up 1 point and 40th 40 points) the country with the lowest total are declared champions.

Moto1 was a fantastic spectacle. 2009 MX1-GP world champion Cairoli took his Yamaha Red Bull De Carli machine head-to-head with AMA Motocross number one Chad Reed. The Australian barely left the rear wheel of the Sicilian for the full duration of 30 minute and 2 laps. It was a tense affair with Cairoli willed along by the swarms of adulating spectators; it was the 24 year old' second career triumph at the Nations. Guarneri managed 16th on the YZ250FM in the same race.

DP on the charge

Moto2 saw Philippaerts in action for the first time. The Yamaha Monster Energy MX Team representative recovered from a shaky start to provide the meeting with a phenomenal finale as he closed a nine second gap in six laps to USA's Ivan Tedesco and snared 2nd place only two corners from the flag. In the same sprint however Guarneri was struck on the shoulder landing from a large leap by Australia's Michael Byrne and his DNF meant that Italy has used their 'Joker'.

Moto3 was over as soon as it started as a collision on the start-straight saw Cairoli embroiled in a high speed pile-up and he retired immediately with a painful neck that proved to be nothing serious. Crashes for Reed, Gautier Paulin and Clement Desalle meant that Team USA were able to deflect the attentions of Italy, France and Belgium, defend their title and win the Nations for the 20th time. Philippaerts was again a proactive force and won the MX Open class thanks to a push through to 3rd by the finish.

Josh Coppins
Josh Coppins

Other than Team Italy Yamaha also counted on Josh Coppins (MX1, New Zealand) and Tanel Leok (MX Open, Estonia) and the total participation of 21 YZ machines from the 36 nations. Coppins had a solid day as the clear leader and most experienced rider for his country. Two 6th places (4th in MX1) on his final outing on the Monster Energy YZ450FM helped New Zealand to 11th overall. Leok had a crash in either outing as the MX Open rider for Estonia and was not 100% fit after a fall last week. The 'Express' was 5th in the class and his country was 8th by the end of the day.

The Motocross of Nations saw the final participation for Cairoli, Coppins, Guarneri and Leok as part of the Yamaha family on the international stage. Coppins still has some winter meetings lined up, the collection of slick tyres in the back of the race truck a clue to his commitment next weekend to the high-profile Mettet Superbiker supermoto event. Philippaerts will continue a testing program with the new YZ through the coming months.

2009 has been a memorable year for the YZ and Yamaha's motocross efforts. The MX1-GP title was successfully defended and the Manufacturer's crown was added to the mantelpiece. All four of Yamaha's principal riders in the category won Grand Prix this season and a YZ only missed the world championship podium on one occasion.

Tony Cairoli, Yamaha Red Bull De Carli:

"The first race was perfect. I knew Chad was there all the time and it was pretty hard to make that rhythm all race but I guessed it was the same for him. We could pull away from the other guys and it was fun. The people here were amazing and I want to say thanks, because they helped me a lot. It was a pretty big crash at the start of the second but now I feel a bit better. I was full gas along the straight and I think it was Paulin who closed my line a bit from the inside and then someone else squashed me from the outside, once we touched then we went flying. I am happy for the first Heat but this was not a good day for Italy and we had no luck."

David Philippaerts, Yamaha Monster Energy Motocross Team:

"I am very happy for my position and to win the Open class but of course things did not work out for our team. I had to ride very hard today with two bad starts; I did the right thing yesterday with the holeshot but was pretty bad for the races, still I pushed really hard to close up to Tedesco. I think the gap was almost ten seconds but I kept opening the gas more and took some chances. When I saw the opportunity to overtake and I made it happen I thought 'this cannot be possible', this must be another David! It was another chase in the second moto. With all the people here it was a hectic but amazing experience and something I will remember for a long, long time."

Davide Guarneri, Yamaha Monster Energy Ricci MX Motocross Team:

"I have to be disappointed. My start was bad in the first moto and I did what I could but in the second I was top five on the first lap until Byrne hit me. We were not together on the jump take-off so I don't know how it happened. I think with the power of his 450 he just over-jumped and it felt like his front fork hit my shoulder."

Josh Coppins, Yamaha Monster Energy Motocross Team:

"A steady day. It was tough because I was like team boss! I had a lot to organise and we qualified well but my two team-mates were not quite prepared for the quick turnaround of the races, it was also a tough track. I was hoping for top ten but it looked like we were just outside. Anyway I did my best for my country and this was my last big race for Yamaha. It was amazing here. The race is now almost too big. You have so much to do as a rider and everything takes too long just because of the crowd; this is a good thing but strange to deal with."

Tanel Leok, Yamaha Red Bull De Carli:

"Last week I crashed and had concussion so I was struggling to be 100% fit. The track was good and I liked it; I found I could be fast. I made some big mistakes in the first moto and got tangled up with some fallen guys at the start of the second. I pushed too hard after that and could not finish the race with the speed I wanted. It was my first time in the MX Open class and it was hard work with the back-to-back races. There were many fans here and it was a good experience."

More than 45,000 Fans Witness a Spectacular Show Jason Thomas wins the Montreal Supermotocross for the second time Swiss Freestyler Mat Rebeaud Electrifies the Crowd

Montreal, October 3, 2009 - More than 45,000 cheering fans witnessed Suzuki rider Jason Thomas of Melrose, Florida spectacular runaway MX1 win over Canadian Colton Facciotti at the Montreal Supermotocross, presented by Coors Light and Parts Canada on Saturday night at the Olympic Stadium. Third place on the podium went to another Canadian, Dusty Klatt from Campbel River, BC. Simon Homans was the best Quebec performer of the grand finale with a 10th place finish.

"The start was going to be everything tonight because the track was wet and passing minimal," said the two-time Montreal race winner Thomas. "I focused on the drop of the gate and made a quick start and ran away. Until then, I was having a terrible weekend."

2009 Canadian champion Facciotti made his way to the 450cc Motocross 1 (MX1) grand finale by winning the first of the two qualifying races ahead of Honda riders Troy Adams of Florida and Cole Seibler from the state of Idaho. Tenth place in the first heat race was good enough for Simon Homans (Honda) from Sherbrooke, QC to qualify for the grand finale. The second heat race belonged to New York rider Robert Kiniry who beat fellow American Teddy Maier, also on a Kawasaki, and Jason Thomas (Suzuki) from Florida. Honda rider Marc-Antoine Généreux from St-Césaire, the best Quebec performer in this heat race, also qualified for the final race. In the last chance qualifying race, for those who did not make the cut in the first two MX1 heat races, enabled Quebec rider Kaven Benoit to make his way to the final on the last lap of the race.

Beaton wins the MX2 race
The first final race of the evening was an all-Canadian affair with Kyle Beaton (Yamaha) from Surrey, BC winning ahead of Quebec Kawasaki rider Kaven Benoit and Brady Sheren, also from Surrey. Sheren led the first five laps of the 10-lap final before Beaton overtook him. Benoit moved past the Suzuki of Beaton for second place on lap 7.

In the second final race of the night, American riders swept the ATV class podium after a hard fought battle between the top three riders with the win finally going to Chad Weinen ahead of John Natalie and Josh Creamer. Fifth place went to Quebec rider Jasmin Plante who ran third until lap 8 of the 10-lap race. The officials for a technical infraction later disqualified Plante. In the first qualifying race held earlier, Can-Am rider Chad Wienen won ahead of Josh Creamer (Kawasaki) and Jasmin Plante (Yamaha). The second heat race was won by another Can-Am rider John Natale from Pennsylvania, followed by fellow American Cody Miller and Quebec rider Richard Pelchat (Can-Am).

Komel Nemeth takes the win in the EnduroCross race
Making its debut at the Montreal Supermotocross, the EnduroCross (EX) riders entertained the crowd during their final race. Local favorite Guy Giroux of St-Jérôme, QC finished third overall behind winner Komel Nemeth from Kamloops, BC and John Dowd from Ludlow, MA. Qualifying rounds were won by KTM rider Komel Nemeth and Kawasaki rider John Dowd, Quebec rider Guy Giroux (BMW) made the qualifying cut with a fourth place finish.

Swiss Freestyler Matt Rebeaud electrifies the crowd
The ever-increasing spectacular Freestyle contest pitted this year the best North American flyers against their European counterparts. With Quebec born Ben Milot leading the way with Californian Wiley Fullmer, nicknamed the elastic man, as well as with British Columbia natives Morgan Kaliszuk and Jeff Banks against Swiss Mat Rebeaud, who holds the world record for the highest jump ever made (11 meters), and who is considered one of the world's best freestyler and Charly Pagès, the 28-year old from France, who is a regular on the international competition scene.

"We had some serious competition tonight," said Ben Milot. "As soon as Rebeaud made his Backflip Superman, everybody's night was done. He is one step ahead of everyone. We had fun and the crowd loved our show."

Pierre Corbeil, the event promoter, was very pleased with the positive fan response to the 32nd edition of the longest continuously running sporting event in Montreal. "It has been a great year. Throughout the summer months leading to tonight's event, we felt a renewed enthusiasm from motorcross fans in Eastern Canada, and this was quite stimulating for the whole organization. The increase affluence at the gates is a testimony of the hard work done by our team. We are already gathering new ideas for 2010, even though this event has just barely finished this one. We are already inviting g everyone to be with us once again for the 33rd running of this event, "concluded the man who has been presiding over this event since 1977.
